Six Year Celebration

September 27th was our six year anniversary and the fact that I am JUST getting around to this post proves that the vacation we took four weeks ago was SO much needed and deserved. This was the first getaway Bry and I were able to take without the boys since we first got Drew. The last time we got away for an actual vacation besides going to visit family, etc was our one year anniversary....sad, yes I know.

Bry was insistent that we were getting away this year and I am SO glad we did. We ventured off to Greer, Arizona - heaven on earth! Before I go on, I must give credit where credit is due. None of this would have been possible without Shelley and Rich. They took care of our little munchkins from Friday through Sunday, which normally would have not been so bad....except Carter was SO sick! I took him in on Friday with a light fever and was told he was fine......oh boy was that doctor wrong! Carter was a monster....a very sick one at that. He had a very high fever, would not eat, would not play, and cried A LOT. His temp got up between 104-105°. So....to say the least Shell and Rich were amazing (and will probably never watch our kids again*smile*).

Back to our rest and relaxation....we headed out Friday afternoon, made the 4 hour drive, and arrived around 6:00. We checked in and settled in. Here are a few things we learned that first night...

*Never assume there is a TV or phone in the room even then they let you rent DVDs for free.
*Dinner just tastes better when ordered and eaten in your big soft bed.
*You only need a TINY bit of bubble bath when in a jet tub. The bubbles multiply exponentially once the jets turn on.

I have never had food that tasted SO good. The BBQ chicken was like no other. It was moist and tender to the bone....and the sauce...oh YUM! If they offer cactus BBQ sauce - GET IT! The rolls were so soft and warm.....the fries were just perfect. And I think it tasted just a tad yummier than anything else ever made because I had to do NOTHING for it (besides pay for it)!

The next day we ate a delicious breakfast overlooking a little stream, small lakes, and lush meadow. We went for a bike ride where I learned how to use a mountain bike, gears and all. That was quite an adventure on the side of a hilly road. We then we horseback riding. WAY fun and well overdue. Bry promised back when we were dating that he would take me horseback riding and he finally made good on the promise. We went for an hour ride and it was amazing. We went for a drive to look at the changing leaves, mostly yellow but still beautiful. Minus the VERY bumpy road it was wonderful. That evening we made a reservation for a table for two at a BAR so that we could watch the USC game. A couple things I learned that day...

*A mountain bike makes your bum SO sore if you have not ridden in a long time.
*An hour ride horseback ride is amazing with no aching bones or muscles.
*A Honda Civic does not handle a bumpy dirt road very well.
*Half a USC game at a bar is plenty.

Throughout the trip we did a lot of relaxing, talking, reading, and resting...mingled with worrying about little Carter. Sunday we packed things up and headed home. We stopped on the way out at a little Breakfast/Lunch place to fill our bellies and enjoyed every bite. I just love hot chocolate when the weather is cool and there is nothing like fresh orange juice in the morning. YUM!

We arrived home in the early afternoon just in time for Drew not to take a nap and enjoy us being home and for me to arrive when Carter woke up with a 104+° temperature. Shell and Rich were amazing and we are SO grateful for their help that weekend. We have decided we may need to pull off one of these every other year or so. It was wonderful!

Most of all, I was reminded of how much I adore and absolutely LOVE my husband. It was SO wonderful to spend time together...just us. He sure can make me smile, make me laugh, and make me feel like I am the most important, beautiful, smart woman ever. I am sure glad that six years ago we decided to spend our forever together.

----Sadly we remembered our camera, but not the memory card so I think we have one picture of an Elk on the camera I can get off of it. ::sniff sniff:: There was another couple there who took pictures of us on the horseback ride, but I am afraid they lost our email address since we have not received them....sad. At least we have our memories!----
