School Days

I still drive Andrew to and from school everyday even though he could take the bus…I just can’t seem to let him do it – I enjoy walking him to class and chatting with the teacher. I have no idea what goes on in his class otherwise since Drew isn’t quite a pro at filling me in on the happenings of preschool, but he does try. Earlier this week…Monday I believe…I picked him up from school and asked him what he did. I knew the “Zoo” unit for the month of February had started so I was hoping for some good animals names….this is what I got..

“Monkey…..scary…..picture…..house……monkey”

Now, he has NEVER been scared of monkeys so I had to ask his teacher later on during the week what he was talking about. She smiled and led me over to the make believe section of the room. There was a big giraffe tent (the house) and a bucket full of animal masks, including a monkey. She said when the other kids put them on he says “scary…scared” and she tried to get him to play something else if he is scared, but he says no….and then proceeds to love putting on the masks himself and scaring the other kids.  She then said maybe he will be one of those thrill seeking children who like to be scared……I just laughed…my Andrew – a thrill seeker? Now that would be something to see!

Have you thought about letting him ride the bus one way (to or from school). I know it is hard to see your baby get on a bus but Brendan loves it and feels more like a big boy.
