August brings the end of summer vacation and the beginning of a new school year. I have loved the lack of scheduled events and the time we get to spend together as a family. We do lots of swimming and playing inside. Goodness knows it is too hot to play outside here in Arizona.
I found Carter sitting eating cereal and reading scriptures in the same chair that just moments ago his father was going the same exact thing. These sweet little spirits are truly watching everything we do and say. They learn from example.
Andrew and Carter had their first day of school!!! Back to school
night and the first week were a success! Drew is in 2nd grade in a
SCILLS class (5 1st graders and 5 2nd graders with a teacher and a few
aides) and Carter is in 1st grade. They are doing great and love school.
Drew is finally happy at school again and is feeling successful which
is a complete 180 from last year. He is willing to work and is excited
about school. Carter's teacher, Mrs. Martin was Drew's teacher last year
and just adored him. It was a rough year, but Drew and she have a
special bond. Now this year, after the first day she and I were chatting
and she said that Carter was a "gift". She told me he asks such great
questions. I know that Carter will love her class. It is so organized
and he is excited to learn and do work. He has been a bit disappointed
that there isn't as much coloring time as in kindergarten. Maylee wanted to make her brother's rainbow cupcakes while the boys were at their first day of school. This tired mama decided dipping the cupcakes with icing in colored sugar crystals would be better than making colored frosting. They loved them!
Maylee
started preschool with Ms. Arlene. She headed in and didn't look back.
Not one tear. Not sure if I like the crying and clinging or the smile
and wave with no turning back. I know she will do great!
To say Carter loves to cook and bake would be an understatement. He says he is going to be a chef when he grows up. If I am in the kitchen he is right there with me. He has been wanting to make his own cupcakes. Bryan was out of town for work so we decided to get right to it. He wanted to hold Marley (Grammy's dog) while watching them bake. All the kids enjoyed decorating their cupcakes!! Drew and Maylee both just lick the icing and their cupcakes were gone in a day or two...Carter is like his mother and was saving them. He saved them up until they were rock hard and inedible and we had to throw them away. I love all these little monsters!
A good friend of ours was baptized this month. Heather and I have been sharing bits and pieces about the gospel with him for the past year at the bus stop. He has a daughter Carter's age. This summer he had some experiences with other members of the church and decided he was ready. He took the discussions and in a few short week was baptized. It was such a wondering experience. Bryan was able to confirm him on Sunday. It was such a beautiful experience for us all and we continue to love to teach and strengthen our testimonies with him.
Drew tried his very first hamburger on a bun!!!!!!! He had an all scout meeting with dinner for the whole family. I was prepping grilled cheese for the kids since none of them would eat there and Drew informed me he wanted to eat what everyone else was eating. We got in line. I asked him if he wanted a bun...then had to explain what a bun was *smile*. He picked a hamburger on a bun with ketchup and then dipped in more ketchup of course, but he ATE IT!!!!!!! He ate about 1/6 of the burger which was fine by me! He ate another one (about 1/3) at Uncle Brigham's swim party that weekend. Drew has come so far with his eating and we are so thrilled. We just need to up the healthy aspect of food choices and get his brother and sister on the same boat.
Carter
lost his first tooth this month. He was so brave when Bry pulled it
out. He was a bit nervous about the Tooth Fairy coming. When you think
about it....a strange lady coming into your room at night does sound a
little creepy. He wanted to know what she looked like and if she came
alone. He did fall asleep and was excited about his $2 that he didn't
have to do anything for.
This month puts me at 19-23
weeks! This baby belly shot is during my 22 week. This baby girl is
sitting low and likes to dance on my bladder. Bryan and Maylee have felt
her move!! Maylee is SO excited about her sister. Some new episodes
came out on Daniel Tiger about his mom having a new sister baby
Margaret. Maylee now wants to name our baby Margaret. Maylee has broken
down in tears in complete distress wanting her baby sister to be here
now. She has started to move toys from her room into the baby's room so
baby has things to play with. We have even wrapped some of Maylee's toys
so that sister has presents because Maylee was concerned she doesn't
have any. Most kids get excited about Christmas because of the
presents....not Maylee....she tells me she can't wait for Christmas to
come because her sister will be here. She rubs my belly and plays
peek-a-boo. This sweet girl is SO excited to be a big sister.
