One Day Old

Maylee did pretty well yesterday. I was able to finally get down to the NICU in the morning without my world spinning.

That afternoon we went back down and I got to help with a diaper change (she has NO fat on her little bum!) and they tried her first feeding. She is still too early to really have the skill of eating, but the nurse gave it a shot. She did okay, but it sure wore her out. Apparently sucking and breathing with a paci is doable for her, but throwing in swalling really is challening. Slowly but surely - baby steps, right? And her baby steps are pretty small....but we will get there!

After she was done I got to snuggle with her. They call it a kangaroo hold where it it just skin on skin with her and it is wonderful!!!!! She is so tiny and warm. (I know I know - I still have had no shower....it has been a long couple of days!)

She zonked for the rest of the afternoon.

My boys came to visit in the evening and it was SO nice to see them. Oh how I have missed their tiny little faces and sweet smiles! They were a bit unsure seeing mommy in the hospital, but warmed right up. I got lots of snuggles from Drew and a couple from Carter. I sure miss being "mommy" at home to my two little princes, but we have been so blessed to have my mom here to help, as well as my sisters and so many other offers. We could not be getting through this without them!

Last night I made it over to see Maylee again during her "cares" where they changed out her IV fluids so she now gets fats (YAY!). Shell visited with me for a while in there while I did some more snuggling. What an amazing experience this all is. I can't even explain the feeling of that tiny little body against mine....her little head is so tiny...her little twiches feel just like they did inside, but she is outside....her little whimpers....her tiny cry...it is all such a miracle. We are so blessed. I stayed with her for about an hour until I was really starting to fall asleep. All was well until they realized her IV was leaking.....bummer! They ended up having to change it to the other hand. I couldn't stand to watch, so being the supportive mommy that I am - I left. But Bry went back to check on her and they said she did great and didn't even cry - what a champ!!!

Anyhow - visitors have been wonderful. It is hard not to let everyone hold Maylee since she has to stay in her little bed in the NICU, but we appreciate all the love and support. She is still super sensitive to sound and touch, but that will get better with time. I know these next couple of weeks will continue to bring lots of new experiences, but we are preparing. We are so in love with our little princess and look forward to watching her grow and improve.

You have a great attitude.. keep it up! It is so hard to have a baby in the hospital, so I feel for you. But she is doing amazing! I will pray for you that she will keep breathing well and start feeding better. It's great to have modern medicine, but it sure is hard to watch them do things like put IVs all over their tiny bodies. Hang in there!

Hang in there! Soon enough you'll have your baby girl at home to snuggle.

My mom called me when she saw a post saying you had your baby early. Sounds like it's going good so far. Luckily at 32 weeks there is so much they can do for them. I had a friend who had hers at 20 weeks or something. He was hardly a pound. He's unfortunately got a lot of issues but he made it! Well you'll have to fill me in on everything like how you ended up delivering so early and how you're doing! Hope all is well and good luck with the sweet little girl!
